I live for my family. I am a mom. My husband and I always wanted a family, and we were not willing to let the fact that we live with diabetes stand in the way of that.
I’m Mom to a wonderful, funny, little boy. He’s five years old. Our son is a firecracker who reminds my husband and I every day of how to live life to the fullest.
I have lived with diabetes for thirty years, but being a Mom with Type 1 diabetes has made me braver than I ever have been in my life. Diabetes is a constant – always standing in front of me – face to face. Diabetes didn’t step aside when I would wake up multiple times a night to feed my son when he was a baby, and it doesn’t step aside if I want to go for a bike ride or play in the park. It certainly doesn’t step aside if I want to take my son out for an ice cream cone after a baseball game. Diabetes is with me every step of the way. Luckily, so is my Dexcom.
I’ve worked hard to keep myself healthy and to keep my diabetes under control because I want to be here to see my child grow. I have had some severe hypoglycemia in the past, and before Dexcom CGM, I was keeping my numbers up a bit higher than they should have been. My Dexcom has helped me to be aware of the oncoming lows so I can treat them before I get into trouble. I love that with my Dexcom, I can now see where my blood sugar is going – whether up or down – and how fast it’s getting there. It’s awesome! It makes it possible for me to keep going and to have the fun I want to have with my family without missing a beat.
I love my Dexcom – it makes my busy life as a mom that much easier.
