Dr. Edelman is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of California, San Diego. He is the Director of the Diabetes Care Clinic at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Diego. Dr. Edelman has been living with type 1 diabetes since 1970, and is the Director of
Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD), a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to educate and motivate people with diabetes to take an active role in their condition.

Dr. Edelman received his MD from the University of California, Davis. His postgraduate training included a residency in internal medicine at UCLA-San Fernando, a clinical fellowship in diabetes and metabolism at the Joslin Clinic and the Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts, and a research fellowship in diabetes and metabolism at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Edelman is board-certified in internal medicine and metabolism, diabetes, and endocrinology.

Dr. Edelman’s honors include valedictorian of his medical school graduating class, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, and Chief Resident’s Teacher of the Year Award from the University of California, San Diego.
