Meet Janet Gidner*

Our two beloved children, Addison and Nolan, were both diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a very young age. We were in shock. We did not have a family history of Diabetes, and we didn’t think this was possible.

Diabetes is a serious, life-changing and life-threatening disease. It’s a scary and

unpredictable constant rollercoaster that we manage every single day. We constantly check our children’s blood glucose levels throughout the day and night. Blood glucose levels can mysteriously go from low to high within minutes in young children and they can’t always communicate or feel their highs and lows, so a tool like the Dexcom

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System is critical for them…and us.

“I don’t think Nolan would be here today without the Dexcom CGM System. It helped to save his life.”

Monitoring is critical for them…and us

The Dexcom CGM System shows glucose levels every five minutes and alerts us if Nolan’s or Addie’s glucose levels are too low or too high. We can spot trends, and see where their glucose levels are and where they are headed.

The road to positivity

We try to look for the positive on this difficult journey. This disease, which is so

complicated, causes my kids to develop traits that they wouldn’t otherwise have. They are amazingly responsible and patient.

The Dexcom CGM System has allowed my daughter to have a lot more freedom. With the Share feature1, she can play outside or at a friend’s house, and we can monitor her glucose levels from our home. At school, she keeps the Dexcom CGM System on her desk during class, and her teacher knows what to do. At night, we used to be up every hour testing our kids’ blood glucose levels. Now, we use the Dexcom CGM System to monitor our children and alert us when there are highs or lows.

Every day with my children is a gift and a treasure. We couldn’t live without our Dexcom CGM Systems. Looking back, I don’t know how we managed without it.
