What are the recommended Android phone settings?

Your phone settings can prevent the Dexcom Follow app from working. Learn more about the settings that will allow your app to work as expected.

App Pause

On Android 10 and above, Pause temporarily disables apps. Using Pause with the Dexcom Follow app stops all notifications.
How to exit App Pause?
  1. Long press the Dexcom Follow app icon on the desktop or in the app drawer
  2. Tap the pause button to edit App Pause

Focus Mode

Focus Mode disables apps when it is on. Using Focus Mode with the Dexcom Follow app stops all notifications.
How to turn Focus Mode off?
  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Find Digital Wellbeing
  3. Turn off Focus Mode, or confirm Dexcom Follow app isn't on the Distracting Apps list

Battery Saver Mode

Battery Saver Mode disables background data. When it is on, your notifications will be delayed.
How to turn Battery Saver Mode off?
  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Tap on Battery
  3. Turn off Battery Saver Mode, or choose the highest battery performance available

Do Not Disturb Permission

You must allow Do Not Disturb Permission for the Dexcom G6 app to work. The Do Not Disturb Permission ensures you always get the Urgent Low alarm and important Dexcom alerts even when you put your phone in the most restrictive Do Not Disturb setting.
How to turn DND Permission on?
Follow in-app instructions, or go to Settings, find DND Permission or DND Access, choose Dexcom G6, tap Allow DND, and tap Allow.

Notifications

Notifications let you get notifications on your smart device. Allow notifications for the Dexcom Follow app to work.
How to turn Notifications on?
  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Find Dexcom Follow in Apps
  3. Tap Notifications
  4. Turn on Notifications

Internet Connection (Wi-Fi or Cellular Data)

Internet connection is required to see your Sharers' readings and get notifications. When there are no Wi-Fi networks available, turn on Cellular Data to connect to the Internet. If you disconnect from both Wi-Fi and Cellular Data, you won't see any readings, or get notifications.
If your phone or cellular service carrier doesn't support voice and data at the same time (VoLTE), you might disconnect from the Internet and delay notifications during phone calls.
How to turn Wi-Fi or Cellular Data on?
  1. Go to phone Settings
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi or Cellular
  3. If VoLTE is supported, turn on VoLTE in Cellular Data options
The location of each setting may be different based on your Android OS version. Please refer to your smart device instructions for detailed information. Not sure which Android OS version you’re on? Find your device’s OS version within the About section of your phone’s Settings.
