How soon will Dexcom support new operating system (OS) versions after they are released?

Dexcom aims to test and support new OS versions as quickly as possible, but there may be a delay after a new OS is released. Always check the official Dexcom compatibility page ( https://www.dexcom.com/compatibility ) before updating your device to ensure continued support.

What if my smartphone is not compatible with my Dexcom app?

If your phone or OS version is not listed as compatible on the Dexcom compatibility page, you may not be able to install or use the app reliably. Using an unsupported device can result in missed alerts, data gaps, or app malfunctions. For the best experience, always use a device and OS version listed as compatible for your specific Dexcom system.

Will getting a new phone affect my Dexcom CGM system?

Yes, changing your phone can affect your Dexcom CGM system. The Dexcom app on your phone is essential for receiving glucose readings, alerts, and notifications. If you switch to a new phone, you must set up your Dexcom system again on the new device to continue uninterrupted glucose monitoring.
  • Always check compatibility at https://www.dexcom.com/en-gb/compatibility
  • Using an unsupported phone may result in missed readings.
  • Dexcom sensors and transmitters can only be paired with one smartphone at a time.
  • Before switching phones ensure you know your Dexcom account login (email and password).
  • Try to time moving from one phone to another with a sensor change.
  • If you can, end your current sensor session on your old phone before switching to the new one. This helps prevent issues with pairing the sensor or transmitter to your new device.
  • Uninstall the Dexcom app from your old device and turn off Bluetooth.
  • Install the app on your new phone and log in using your Dexcom account.
  • Wait at least 15 minutes before pairing the new phone.
  • Follow the setup wizard to pair your device and start and a new session.
  • Important: Data stored locally (e.g. Clarity card data) may be lost after reinstalling the app.
  • If using a receiver, no changes are needed unless switching to a new receiver.

  • If the new device doesn’t connect:
  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Confirm the old device is fully disconnected.
  • If login fails:
  • Check email spelling or reset your password.

Why Am I Being Asked to Update My Smartphone’s Operating System (OS) for Dexcom Apps?

Dexcom apps require your smartphone or tablet to run a compatible version of its operating system (OS), such as iOS or Android. If you receive a message asking you to update your phone’s OS, it means your current version may soon no longer be supported, or new features and security updates require a newer version.

Why is this important?

  • App reliability: Dexcom apps are tested and optimised for specific OS versions. Using an outdated OS can cause the app to stop working correctly, miss alerts, or lose connection to your sensor.
  • Security: Updates often include important security improvements to keep your health data safe.
  • New features: The latest OS versions allow Dexcom to provide new features and improvements for your CGM experience.
Removing support for older OS's is a normal app maintenance activity and is typically done after we add support for new major OS's. Additionally, updating your phone to a newer OS version that's compatible with your Dexcom app can provide your phone with improvements in Bluetooth connectivity, security, and other features that may offer a better phone experience.
If your phone can't update to the new minimum OS, you'll need to install the Dexcom app on a phone that runs the new minimum OS to continue getting app updates. While your current app version will continue to work on your phone, Dexcom can't predict how the app will function in the future.
