What are the early signs of diabetes?

There are several early warning signs of type 1 diabetes. However, they may not be obvious right away. A few of the most common signs include:
  • Extreme thirst
  • Increased need to urinate
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Dry mouth
  • Increased hunger
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Blurred vision
  • Sores healing slower than usual
  • Frequent infections
  • Red and swollen gums
  • A tingling or numb feeling in your hands or feet
  • Breath smelling sweet or fruity
  • Nausea or vomiting
If you notice any of the above symptoms, contact your doctor. The earlier diabetes can be diagnosed, the sooner you can start to treat it, manage it, and avoid health complications.
