Do I need a prescription to qualify for coverage?
Yes, to obtain coverage through IFHP you must present a valid IFHP eligibility document, a government-issued photo ID, and a valid prescription for Dexcom CGM.
What do I need to get coverage approval?
To obtain coverage through IFHP, complete the following steps:
  1. Present a signed copy of one of the following documents as proof of IFHP Eligibility to the pharmacist:
    • Refugee Protection Claimant Document (RPCD) (with photo) or
    • Refugee Protection Identity Document (RPID) (with photo) or
    • Interim Federal Health Certificate (IFHC) (with or without photo) or
    • Acknowledgement of Claim and Notice to Return for Interview Letter (AoC)
  2. If the IFHP eligibility document does not have a photo, present a government-issued photo ID to the pharmacist.
  3. Present a valid prescription to the pharmacist from an authorized healthcare professional.
  4. Ensure the pharmacy is registered with Medavie Blue Cross as an IFHP provider. You can search for registered IFHP pharmacy providers here: https://ifhp.medaviebc.ca/en/providers-search

How long am I approved for?
For refugee (asylum) claimants, your coverage will start once you receive an Acknowledgment of Claim (AOC) or Refugee Protection Identity Document (RPID). You remain eligible for IFHP coverage until you qualify for health insurance from your province or territory.
For resettled refugees, supplemental benefits and prescription drugs are covered until you are no longer receiving income support from the Resettlement Assistance Program (or its equivalent in Quebec), and/or financial assistance through private sponsorship.
Where can I get my Dexcom CGM supplies?
Once you are approved for IFHP coverage overall, present your IFHP eligibility document with a valid prescription for Dexcom G7 to a registered IFHP pharmacy provider. The pharmacist can then bill your claims for Dexcom CGM directly to IFHP when picking up your Dexcom supplies in-store or, if available, the pharmacy can ship the supplies to your location.
Will I have any out-of-pocket costs?
As of May 1, 2026, IFHP beneficiaries are responsible for the following co-payments:
  • $4 for each eligible prescription medication filled or refilled under the IFHP.
  • 30% of the cost of all other eligible supplemental health products and services, including Dexcom CGM.
If you find you do have a co-pay amount at pharmacy, the Dexcom Savings Program assists in reducing out-of-pocket costs up to 20%.* Download a copy of the program certificate below, which can be redeemed at your pharmacy with a valid Dexcom G7 prescription.
