CGM Coverage in Newfoundland and Labrador
Does Newfoundland and Labrador provide Dexcom CGM coverage?
Yes, coverage for Dexcom G6 and Dexcom G7 is available through the Provincial Continuous Glucose Monitoring Program for (1) individuals of all ages living with Type 1 diabetes and (2) individuals with gestational diabetes mellitus.
To be eligible for continuous glucose monitoring coverage, residents must:
- Be a permanent resident of NL
- Have a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Care Plan (MCP) number
- Meet income-testing criteria
- Have confirmed diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes and use of an insulin pump or multiple daily injection (MDI) therapy using rapid-acting analog insulin OR
- Be pregnant and have confirmed diagnosis of gestational diabetes (GDM) through a glucose tolerance test.
Do I need a prescription to get Dexcom CGM?
Yes, you will need a valid prescription for either Dexcom G6 or Dexcom G7.
What do I need to do to apply for coverage approval?
To participate in the t program, request an application package by emailing [email protected]. The package includes the Application Form and the Verification of Medical Eligibility Form to be completed by you and your health care provider. Submit these completed forms along with confirmation of private insurance* to [email protected] or by fax to 709-777-6027.
*Failure to disclose third-party insurance coverage may result in termination of benefits. Should there be a change in insurance coverage or if benefits are maxed out, please obtain an explanation of benefits from your insurance company and send it to the program by email or fax.
How long am I approved for?
Coverage approvals last one year.
Where can I get my Dexcom CGM supplies?
Once you’re approved for coverage, you will be supplied with a pharmacy payment certificate from Dexcom. Present this payment certificate to your local pharmacy to access your Dexcom G6 or G7 CGM supplies.
Will I have any out-of-pocket costs?
In some cases, you may have out-of-pocket costs when purchasing at your pharmacy. If you find you do have a co-pay amount, the Dexcom Savings Program assists in reducing or even eliminating up to 20% of out-of-pocket costs.* Download a copy of the program certificate below, which can be redeemed at your pharmacy with a valid Dexcom G7 prescription.
