Peter Simpson
Peter Simpson is Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Dexcom, where he leads the company’s technology vision, innovation strategy, and development of next-generation continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) solutions that improve outcomes for people with diabetes worldwide. Over more than two decades at Dexcom, he has led or contributed to every generation of the company’s CGM systems, helping shape the technologies that underpin Dexcom’s market leadership. He designed the company’s first commercial sensor, established early sensor manufacturing processes, and continues to play a central role in advancing Dexcom’s product and platform roadmap.
Peter’s leadership spans the full CGM ecosystem — from sensors and hardware to algorithms and digital health solutions. He has guided teams across manufacturing optimization, product development, early-stage concepting, and breakthrough innovation. His work has also supported Dexcom’s expansion into digital therapeutics and data-driven insights, enabling innovations such as Smart Basal, foundational Stelo app features, and the company’s growth in type 2 diabetes. Previously, as Senior Vice President of Innovation and Sensor Technology, he helped translate emerging science into scalable, patient-ready technologies while fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Peter holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University and spent three years pursuing a PhD at UC Berkeley before becoming a founding scientist at a startup. He is a prolific inventor with more than 700 awarded and pending U.S. patents, has authored numerous technical publications, co-authored CGM guidance documents, and served as a key technical witness in legal and regulatory matters. He also serves on the board of the UC San Diego Center for Wearable Technology.
