How do I transition my dependent or minor to their own account?
If your dependent has reached the age of majority (18 years), they can create their own independent Dexcom account. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth transition:
1. Create a New Account:
Via the Dexcom G7 App:
- Reinstall the Dexcom G7 app on the dependent’s phone.
- Select Create Account and follow the on-screen instructions using their personal information
Via the Dexcom website:
- Visit Dexcom.com and in the main navigation menu click the Account link (Account icon is top right of screen on desktop).
- Complete the registration process
2. Link to Clarity Clinic:
- After creating the new account, log in to the Dexcom G7 app or Dexcom Clarity app with the new credentials.
- Navigate to Connections > Clarity Clinic and enter the Clinic Share Code provided by your healthcare provider. This ensures your provider can access glucose data uploaded to Clarity from the new account.
3. Notify Your Healthcare Provider (HCP):
- Share the new account credentials with your HCP so they can view your data in Dexcom Clarity. Most clinicians need 2–3 months of historical data, so maintaining access during the transition is important.
4. Consider Data Retention:
- Dexcom recommends keeping the old dependent account active for a short transition period (e.g., three months) before requesting deletion. This helps avoid gaps in data and ensures continuity of care.
5. Account Deletion:
To delete your account, please follow the steps outlined below:
- Log in to your My Dexcom Account
- Navigate to the "Profiles" section
- Click on "Manage Profiles"
- On the profile page, scroll down to the bottom
- Select "Delete my account.
- Complete and submit the Data Grail form to initiate a privacy request through Data Grail
After submission, our team will be reaching out via email to guide you through the process until completion.
Important Notes:
- Always use the dependent’s username and password for their apps after transition.
- An internet connection is required for data sharing with Clarity.
- The legal age for account independence may vary by region, but Dexcom defaults to 18 years.
