Is the Dexcom G7 app compatible with Siri?
You can ask Siri to read your Dexcom glucose readings and show your graph on the lock screen.
This feature is only compatible with iPhones and iPads. Review a list of compatible smart devices. This feature is not currently compatible with Apple Watch.
This is an optional feature that must be set up in the Dexcom app (instructions below). To use this feature, you must have Siri enabled on your phone (visit Apple's Siri user guide to learn how) and you must be connected to the internet.
Siri responds only to your voice and the phrase you choose.
How to use the 'What's my glucose? Siri Shortcut:
- Make sure that you’re connected to the internet.
- Navigate to the Profile tab of your Dexcom G7 app.
- Tap the “Siri Shortcuts” button.
- Tap the "What's my glucose" shortcut to add it. If you haven’t yet enabled Siri on your iOS device, you will be guided to do that first.
- You can choose to change the voice phrase by tapping, "Change Voice Phrase."
Siri responses:
When a reading is available, you can activate Siri by speaking the recorded phrase, (recording instructions are above) and one of the following standard phrases will be read:
“Hey Siri, What’s my glucose?”
- You're 110 and steady.
- You're 110 and slowly rising.
- You're 110 and slowly falling.
- You're 110 and rising.
- You're 110 and falling.
- You're 110 and rapidly rising.
- You're 110 and rapidly falling.
If a glucose reading is not available, you will be instructed to check the Dexcom app for more information.
Troubleshooting Siri:
If you are having trouble with setting up Siri, or you’re not getting the response you expect, you may need to make changes to your iPhone or iPad settings.
Can’t set up Siri from the Dexcom App?
- Check to be sure that the Shortcuts App is installed on your phone. It’s an optional app that you might have deleted.
- If you don’t have it, go to the App Store, search "Shortcuts" and tap "Get" to download and install.
- Then, go back to the Dexcom app and try adding the "What's my glucose?" Siri Shortcut again.
Siri always responds that ‘something went wrong’
If you’ve used Siri with other Dexcom apps before setting up G7, it may be trying to access your glucose data from the wrong app. You can delete existing shortcuts and start over.
- Open the Shortcuts app on your phone.
- Delete any shortcuts related to glucose. These might be G6 or Health app shortcuts.
- Then go back to the Dexcom app and try setting up Siri again.
Siri displays a graph but doesn’t read out the response
Siri has a system-level setting for spoken responses. To ensure that it is enabled:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Tap on “Siri” from within the Settings menu.
- Select “Siri Responses”.
- Select “Prefer Spoken Responses”.
Siri doesn’t work when the phone is locked
Siri has a system-level setting for visibility. To ensure that your Dexcom readings will display when your phone is locked:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Tap on “Siri” from within the Settings menu.
- Enable “Allow Siri When Locked”.
Some Siri settings might be different on older iOS versions. For more help with setting up or using Siri, check out Apple's Siri user guide.
